In consultation with the Iowa Democratic Party's Rules Committee Chair Sandy Dockendorff, State Party Chair Michael Kiernan has called a special meeting of the State Central Committee to discuss a dispute regarding the special nominating convention to fill the vacancy in House District 33. (read Chairman Kiernan's letter here) The Meeting will take place on Monday, October 19, 2009, at 7:00 PM CST via Conference Call. In accordance with Article XII, Section 5, "Open Meetings: All meetings of Democratic Central Committees and Conventions, and of their committees, shall be open in the same manner as an agency of the state government is required to hold open meetings." The dispute concerns the scheduling of the Special Nominating Convention without consulting and discussing the ramifications with the Linn County Democratic Central Committee, as well as efforts by persons outside of Linn County to impact the membership of the LCDCC. The LCDCC Executive Board expressed their concerns to Chairman Kiernan in a message (read it here) sent Thursday October 15.
