Culver to talk jobs in Iowa City on Wednesday

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver will help break ground on Iowa City's new fire station tomorrow morning, which has received more than $2.2 million from the Culver-Judge I-JOBS program.

The event will take place in Iowa City at the location of the new station: 2008 Dubuque Rd It is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.

The I-JOBS program, which is investing $830 million across the state to improve infrastructure and support jobs, has provided funds for several projects within those areas of eastern Iowa that were stricken by the June 2008 floods. The Iowa City project is expected to create 18 permanent jobs when it is completed. It is Iowa City's first new fire station since 1972.

Culver will also travel to Perry tomorrow in order to welcome home troops from the 1168th Transportation Company. The troops were deployed in October 2008 and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tomorrow afternoon, Culver is back in Des Moines, where he will hold a press conference to update the media and public on plans to reduce state government spending by 10 percent.
